P L A N I T Strategic is a town planning consultancy that is based in Canberra. We focus on providing planning advice and services for a sustainable and socially responsible future. With over 30 years combined experience, the team is committed to providing high-quality strategic, statutory planning and environmental advice to our clients. Kip Tanner and Hope Watson have a demonstrated record of success as leaders in the industry with expert local knowledge.

P L A N I T Strategic has extensive experience working with the ACT Government and the National Capital Authority and assisting clients across all industries. Kip Tanner

Planner & Environmental Engineer

Kip is interested in the interaction of our built environment with the impending changes to our transport systems. He is also interested in the links between the built environment and our physical and mental wellbeing.

Kip has enjoyed 20 years working as a town planning consultant in Canberra. His focus on environmental assessments, sustainable design, active transport, infrastructure, community and recreation projects are aligned with his personal values and supported by his formal training as a Civil and Environmental Engineer.

In recent years Kip has taken up bike packing and completed the Hunt 1000 and Mawson Trail routes, in summer he sails an Australian lightweight sharpie and in winter he plays field hockey. He is currently working out how to convert is 1961 Holden to run on electricity. His bicycle is his primary means of transport.

Qualifications: BEng (Civil & Environmental).

Hope Watson RPIA

Senior Environmental & Town Planner

Hope is interested in sustainable development and ensuring planning decisions are strategic, facilitating improved outcomes for both the human and biophysical environment.

Hope is a registered planner who is a specialist in statutory, strategic planning and land use in the ACT. She enjoys advocating for and delivering planning outcomes that provide positive and equitable results for her clients, the community, and the environment.

She enjoys the challenge of navigating projects through the complex planning and environmental approvals processes and working on a wide variety of projects with varied stakeholders. She has spent over 15 years working as an environmental and planning professional in NSW and the ACT in both consulting and government.

Hope has been a member of the PIA ACT Division Committee since 2022.

Hope enjoys competing in Ultimate Frisbee, a highlight was winning a bronze medal at the World Ultimate Championships in London in 2016 with the Australian women’s master’s team. Hope and her family built a modest, sustainable, 8 star rated home in Wright. She also enjoys hanging out with her family, cycling and she has recently taken up Disc Golf.

Qualifications: BSc (Applied Geography).

Audrey Rahimi

Town Planner

Audrey is passionate about creating vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive communities through thoughtful urban planning and innovative design solutions.

Audrey has a background in Geology and over three years of experience in the urban planning industry, providing her with a multidisciplinary perspective in her role as a Town Planner. She has demonstrated capability in coordinating diverse projects from concept to completion, with a focus on delivering sustainable and practical solutions for vibrant communities.

Currently, she is developing her skills further at P L A N I T, contributing to initiatives that prioritise strategic development and community wellbeing.

Expertise: Statutory Planning & Development Approvals, Development Potential Study, Site Analyses and Research, Works Approval.

Qualifications: BSc Geology

Mohamed Ashik

Town Planner

Mohamed is interested in people focused urban planning that enhances the quality of life in the public realm, urban life, sustainable planning, and community development.

Mohamed is a town planner with a Masters’ Degree from the University of Canberra and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Mohamed has been working for P L A N I T for the past two years on various development applications and planning advice. Mohamed has enjoyed travelling while studying and experiencing the approach to urban planning in three very different contexts (India, Japan and Australia).

Expertise: Statutory Planning & Development Approvals, Community Engagement, Active Transport & Recreational Planning.

Qualifications: BTech (Civil Engineering), MURP
